A computer software program is available for calculating a true estimate of breast
cancer risk. A woman can answer a few specific questions on the "Risk Disk" and estimate her 5 year and
projected lifetime risk of developing breast cancer. The Risk Disk is a risk assessment tool developed by the National
Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP). Many women who have
used the software are pleasantly surprised that their risk is not as high as they had imagined.
The Risk Disk has been made available to over 100,000 health professionals in the United States and your doctor
can request a copy of the disc by contacting:
· NCI’s Cancer Information Service at: 1-800-4-CANCER
· NCI’s Cancer Trials Web site at http://cancerTrials.nci.nih.gov
· Or by writing to: Office if Cancer Communications, NCI Building 31, Room 10A03, 31 Center Drive MSC 2580,
